Dance of thieves about5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Natiya led us deeper into the valley, unafraid. One of them slid a cool fingertip along my jaw, pressing a warning to my lips, Shhh, Kazi, don’t say a word. I felt the ghosts hovering, watching, wondering. It had been six years since the Great Battle, but the scars were still visible-overturned wagons eaten up with grass, scattered bones dug from graves by hungry beasts, the skeletal ribs of giant brezalots reaching skyward, birds perched on their elegant bleached cages. My horse’s ears pricked, watchful, a rumble deep from his throat. We rode through Sentinel Valley, ruins of the Ancients looking down upon us. They call to you in unexpected moments, their hands lacing with yours and pulling you down paths that lead nowhere. The words lingered in the air, each one a shimmering spirit, cold whispers of caution, but I wasn’t afraid. ![]()

Cara hunter no way out5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As ever, Cara Hunter has produced a storyline that has great pace and lots of twists and turns, with a truly great little twist at the end. In this police procedural, DI Fawley takes a more backseat role, and for good reason, he is an emotional wreck as his wife, Alex, has left him but that allows the others in his team to shine and I loved that. I feel like I’m repeating myself but I have to say once again how much I love this series and how much I love Cara Hunter’s writing! No Way Out is Cara Hunter’s third book in the DI Adam Fawley series and it is every bit as captivating and clever as the others. Why were they left in the house alone? Where is their mother, and why is their father not answering his phone? Then new evidence is discovered, and DI Fawley’s worst nightmare comes true.Because this fire wasn’t an accident. The toddler is dead, and his brother is soon fighting for his life. The Christmas holidays, and two children have just been pulled from the wreckage of their burning home in North Oxford. ![]()

The Fall of Five by Pittacus Lore5/30/2023 ![]() But, even early on, you’ll also find more literary call-backs, including nods to John Milton’s Paradise Lost. For instance, looking back at its inception in the late ’80s, you’ll find elements from Frank Herbert’s Dune, with a God-Emperor, a hatred of AI, and the spacefaring Navigators. Warhammer 40K began as a pastiche of science fiction and fantasy tropes. We’ve created this guide with newcomers in mind, and we’ll pepper our primer with recommendations for games, books, videos, and even entire factions that you might want to learn more about. But it’s possible to engage with the 40K fandom with a running start, gathering up bits of its nearly 40-year backstory as you go along. Meanwhile, since the narrative has never been rebooted or retconned, there are few official on-ramps for new players. ![]() Fan wikis and forums can be esoteric and packed with proper nouns. ![]() Much like real history, it can be hard to piece everything together. ![]() Instead, it’s up to the reader to sift through all the dusty - and highly collectible - tomes in order to parse its primary sources. Just like actual history, no single narrator or historian in the grim darkness of the far future is 100% reliable. Instead, Games Workshop and its publishing arm Black Library has taken the stance that everything ever written about its sprawling lore is “true” - all of it is canon, more or less since its inception in the 1980s. There has been little active curation of Warhammer 40K canon. ![]()
